Before you call
It helps to know roughly when the house was built, whether you are moving fixtures or keeping them in place, and what your rough budget range is. None of it is essential — but with it we can usually give you a useful answer in one call rather than three.
Common questions
What people ask before they book
If yours isn't here, ring the office — we would rather answer it before you commit to anything.
- How long does a bathroom renovation actually take?
- Our plumbing stages usually run four to six weeks on site, spread across a longer program because we work around the waterproofer, tiler and cabinetmaker. We give you a written program at quote stage showing which trade is on site which week, so you can see where the waiting periods are rather than wondering.
- What happens if you find something unexpected behind the walls?
- We stop and talk to you before doing anything else. You get photos or camera footage, an explanation of the options including doing nothing, and a written variation before we proceed. Nothing gets added to your invoice that you have not agreed to first.
- Do we need to move out?
- Usually not. On most bathroom projects we stage the work so one bathroom stays usable, and on heating retrofits no room is without heating for more than a day. Full rear extensions are the exception — if the kitchen and laundry are both open, most families choose to relocate.
- Why are your quotes higher than some others?
- Often because we have included something the cheaper quote left out — upsizing a gas line, replacing a section of sewer while the floor is up, or the waterproofing hold points. Our pricing page explains exactly what drives cost on each type of job. If a quote is significantly cheaper, it is worth asking which of those it covers.
- Are you licensed and insured?
- Yes. We hold current Victorian plumbing and gas fitting licences and full public liability insurance, and every gas job leaves with a compliance certificate. We are happy to provide certificates of currency before you commit to anything.
- Do you use subcontractors?
- Not for plumbing or gas work — that is all done by our own licensed team. We coordinate other trades such as tiling, waterproofing and electrical, and on most projects we work with the same people we have used for years.
