The questions that separate a quote you can rely on from one that will grow.
We would rather you asked us hard questions than signed something you did not understand. These are the seven we would ask if we were the customer.
1. What is explicitly excluded? A quote without exclusions is not finished. Exclusions are where variations come from.
2. What have you allowed for the existing services? If nobody has looked at the sewer line or the meter, that allowance is a guess.
3. Who is actually doing the work? Ask whether the plumbing is done by employees or subcontracted, and who manages the other trades.
4. What is the program? A week-by-week program showing which trade is on site tells you whether the timeline is real.
5. How are variations handled? The answer should involve something written and approved before work continues, not a conversation at the end.
6. What certificates will I receive? Gas work must come with a compliance certificate. Ask what you will be given at handover.
7. Can I see a job like mine? Not a gallery of finished photos — a specific project in a similar house, ideally with what went wrong and how it was handled.
Any firm worth hiring will answer all seven without hesitating.
